The rally surely came to an early halt when heavy rain and the windstorm caused the sound system to fail but the real message was delivered already.
It was raining, what I call, ‘elephants and dinosaurs’, and suddenly it was really cold in what was deemed to be a very hot Lahori evening.
The never-ending nerve-wrecking cold gushing rain felt like the best thing in the world and we felt as if our hearts, souls, minds, and bodies have been cleansed of all pessimism, negativity, cynicism and hatred.
It was hence no wonder that people just went wild instead of being subdued, and many of them refused to leave.
With their jeans, expensive cell phones, cameras, shoes all soaking wet , they kept standing their ground while raising clinched fists up in the air and chanting ‘hum nahi ja rahy, hum nazi ja rahy’ and other slogans.
Upon listening ‘kon bachae ga Pakistan, Imran Khan Imran Khan’, I invented the slogan: ‘Kon jitwae ga World Cup dobara, Imran Khan Hamara Imran Khan Hamara’, which caused a good few laughters.
Earlier, the real thing happened when Imran Khan came to stage n on every second statement of the ELECTED Chairman, people would clap like the most civilized British Cricket Fans sitting in The Oval.
When it the rain started and it kept going on and on and on, some people had no option but to start leaving. But upon seeing them departing, many guys including our group moved further into the ground and closer to the stage and kept on raising slogans.
It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to consider the rain with accompanied windstorm a good omen; it seems like a prophetic sign of the tsumani of positive change that is to engulf Pakistan pretty soon.
I overheard someone saying: Rain had proved instrumental in helping Pakistan won Cricket World Cup ’92. So based on the fervor generated by it , yesterday’s rain during the 23rd March PTI Rally may as well help Khan’s team win the Biggest Cup of Pakistani Politics.
Hats off to Lahories. And hats off to people who came in from far flung areas in public transport to attend the rally even though they knew they would have to stay in open air overnight or hitch-hike their way back to their home in Chiniot, Boraywala, Sargodha, Peshawar, Karak etc. etc. in late evening.
Imran Khan, my fellow countrymen, has been in the big league since some time, thanks to his persistence, but now thanks to his tigers utmost support and faith, he is going to clinch the biggest victory of PTI and Pakistan.
The game is ON.
